Expert Heat Pump Repairs
Heat pump hot water systems are known for their energy efficiency, making them a great alternative to solar hot water heating.
Heat pumps also work well in cold climates, operating in temperatures as low as -5°C. That makes it the perfect water heater for Australian conditions. You can even avoid the need for solar panels while still calling on renewable energy to provide warm water!
You’ll save on energy consumption and lower your carbon emissions with minimal effort and no loss of steaming showers or bubble baths.

How Does a Heat Pump Work?
Never heard of a heat pump hot water system before? Don’t worry, we can help you understand them!
Heat pumps work by transferring heat from one element into another, usually in the form of air to water. These systems produce a gas by passing a liquid refrigerant through an evaporator. As this process takes place, the refrigerant also extracts heat energy from the air.
To help it absorb even more heat, the gas is then compressed. This heat is then transferred to your water supply, which heats the water whilst also cooling the gas. Following this, the now cool gas is moved onto an expansion valve and once again condensed into a liquid form. The process then begins again when needed.
The effectiveness of a heat pump hot water system ultimately relies on the difference between your storage tank’s water temperature and its ambient temperature. Some components of the system require electricity, hence why this unit sometimes is referred to as an electric heat pump.
But with increased savings – both of the greenhouse gas and energy cost kind – the heat pump performs far better than an electric hot water system.
The hot water heat pump also gives similar efficiency to a solar hot water system, without the need for panels, so it is a strong all rounder.
Types of Heat Pump Units
With a wide range of exciting heat pumps on the market, you’ll never run out of options. Leading manufacturers include:
- Rheem
- Chromagen
- Solahart
- Stiebel Eltron
- Rinnai
Plus more! The versatility of each brand means there is likely a heat pump hot water system which is perfectly suited to your needs.
For example, Chromagen models include a 170 litre and 280 litre storage tank, while the Rheem HDi-310 comes in at 310 litres. Stiebel Eltron and Rinnai’s Enviroflo heat pump also come in at 300L+ for the perfect companion to a busy household.
The highly efficient unit is perfect as a replacement for an outdated electric hot water system, while it can be paired with solar panels. While you cannot directly purchase a solar heat pump, if you have existing panels than hot water heat pumps will basically run off-grid thanks to solar power.
Energy efficient performance will also see you save up to 75 per cent on hot water energy usage (compared to electric) and around 60 per cent on greenhouse gas emissions.
It’s a reliable source of hot water for homes of all sizes and in all climates.
